Our Story

A letter from our Founder....

Hello,

It is lovely to meet you.

I am Donna Foster. I live in Ryedale with my husband Paul, our three beautiful daughters, two dogs, two horses, two sheep and three cats.

In 2022, we were learning to live with the changes COVID had brought, just like every other family. However, we had no idea that another life-changing event was about to turn our world upside down.

One of our daughters was extremely pale, weak and under the weather, so we took her to our GP expecting to be given some tablets to help get her better. We didn't get the tablets. Instead we learnt that our daughter was hiding a secret - she was battling anorexia and was extremely poorly; she was only 13.

Unfortunately, she ended up having to be sectioned and admitted to a specialist hospital in Cheshire, 3 hours away from home. She spent 8 months in there, but this saved her life.

We had to fight for this help though, no one at the beginning would take us seriously. We got passed from pillar to post, being told she wasn’t poorly enough despite the fact she was slipping away from us. We were alone, without support. In the end we had to get our local MP involved before the help came. It shouldn’t be this way!

I therefore decided to set up Kick Rexi Out.

Rexi was the name we gave anorexia in our family! Rexi isn’t welcome in families, eating disorders are serious mental health illnesses with extremely physical consequences. Families are left alone to fight this illness at home, help only comes when it’s getting too late! Help should be available sooner. We need to change this, so myself and my wonderful team who are as passionate as I am, are determined to make a difference.

If you are caring for a loved one who is battling this terrible illness, please know that you don't need to suffer alone.

We are here to help and support you. Please reach out to us.

Thank you for reading our story and for your support.

Warm Regards,

Donna x
